Pediatric Chiropractic Care in Columbus

Our adult patients frequently ask whether their children should see a chiropractor. The short answer is yes; chiropractic care is safe and can benefit pediatric patients in a variety of ways. In fact, many of the chronic ailments that we see in adults stem from childhood injuries or repetitive activities, so pediatric chiropractic care addresses long-term health and wellness as well as immediate concerns. Also, one of the best compliments our patients can give is to involve us with the chiropractic care of their whole family.

Sports Injuries

Our community is rich in competitive youth sport. On any weekend, year-around, you'll find boys and girls participating in team and individual sports: soccer, football, softball, baseball, tennis, basketball, gymnastics, equestrian activities, and more. Sprains and strains are fairly common place and there are some very good reasons why chiropractic treatment is the right choice.

First, our focus on non-invasive methods to relieve pressure on the central nervous system allows the body to heal faster. Second, the chiropractic approach treats the balance and wellness of the entire body. This is important because the body will naturally protect and compensate for injury by bearing more weight on uninjured areas. So the sprained right ankle can cause more wear and tear on the left knee and hip and leaving these areas exposed to new injury. A pediatric chiropractic care plan treats the injury, but also monitors the balance of the rest of the body.

Repetitive activities:

From sports to ballet to music lessons and video games, kids learn valuable skills from practice, practice, practice. Repetitive movements, however, can cause long term effects on spinal and whole body alignment, especially if the right posture for these activities is not in place. A chiropractic routine for young people focuses on gaining and maintaining the correct posture for all activities.

Scoliosis - This is a curvature of the spine that is usually detected during childhood. Mild to moderate scoliosis can be effectively treated by a chiropractor. Spinal adjustments and focused physical therapy can significantly improve a child's posture and balance while helping to prevent chronic pain and areas of the body that are vulnerable to injury.

Chiropractic Care for Infants

It's never too soon to care for the spine. From newborn and throughout the developmental milestones of the first years, infants benefit from chiropractic care. An appointment is recommended after the birth process; when the baby starts to hold up his/her head and once sitting, crawling, standing and walking begins. Chiropractic therapies for babies addresses a variety of post-birth issues such as torticollis (twisted neck), underdevelopment of one arm - known as Frb's Palsy, foot inversion, and unbalanced symmetry. Digestive and sleep disorders in infants can also be alleviated or avoided with appropriate early chiropractic care.

Armed with modern protocols and techniques, pediatric chiropractors are able to treat children from the first days of their lives, throughout childhood and into their adult years. Making the decision to take a child to a chiropractor is one that is beneficial, affordable, as well as practical for today's parents.
