If you have never visited a chiropractor before, you probably have a lot of questions about the safety and efficacy of chiropractic care. Chiropractors undergo years of education and training and gain years of experience. Chiropractic care is a safe, non-invasive treatment option for people who want an alternative to surgery, prescription medication, or dangerous treatments. At Brodwyn and Associates, we have a team of six highly skilled and experienced chiropractors in Columbus, GA, who are committed to providing quality, patient-centered care. We focus on providing all three stages of chiropractic care: acute care, corrective care, and wellness care.

What Education and Experience Do Chiropractors Have?

Before becoming a chiropractor, you must earn a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. Then you must attend a chiropractic college. You will need to take around 4,200 course credit hours and follow a rigorous course of study that is similar to what many other doctors have to follow. In your fourth year, you will complete a clinical internship at a chiropractor’s office and a clinical rotation at a hospital. Then you will need to pass the four-part test administered by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. You can then apply for a chiropractor’s license in the state where you want to practice. You will have to pass that state’s exam, submit a list of references, and undergo a background check.

Are Chiropractic Adjustments Painful?

No, chiropractic adjustments are not painful or uncomfortable. Our chiropractors have extensive experience and perform adjustments in a clinical setting while taking all measures necessary to protect our patients’ safety and comfort and mitigate risk.

What Are the Risks of Going to a Chiropractor?

Like any other form of treatment, chiropractic care does carry some level of risk. However, when compared to traditional medical care and treatments, chiropractic care is much lower risk. You will not be subjected to painful or invasive procedures, you will not need to undergo anesthesia, and you will not need to take prescription medication. The risks associated with chiropractic adjustments are very rare, and include stroke, headache, fatigue, discomfort or tenderness, or worsening of symptoms.
