If you are one of the many people who work in front of a computer daily, then you are at risk of neck pain. Neck pain is a common complaint for people who work at computers for a number of reasons, but there are steps you can take to prevent it.

At Brodwyn & Associates, our chiropractors offer effective, drug-free chiropractic care for neck pain. If you are experiencing discomfort, don’t hesitate to make an appointment. To reduce your risk of neck pain or to prevent further damage to your neck, keep the following advice in mind when you’re sitting at your computer desk.

Check Your Screen Position

To protect your neck, your computer screen should be directly in front of you so you can look at it while keeping your neck in a neutral position. If you have to tilt your head up or down, even slightly, then your screen is not in the right position. Adjusting it up or down accordingly can reduce a significant amount of pressure on your neck.

Sit Straight in Your Chair

You should be able to sit in your desk chair with your feet on the ground, your knees at a 90-degree angle, and your back against the chair. If you can’t sit comfortably in that position, then your chair may be set at the wrong height. Avoid twisting or slumping in your chair. Our chiropractors at Brodwyn and Associates, can help you evaluate your sitting posture and make adjustments if necessary.

Take Frequent Breaks

When you’re working, try to take a break from your computer about once per hour. Getting up and moving around will give your neck a break. Our chiropractors can also show you exercises you can do during your breaks to ease the strain on your neck.
